Come to the island of Zante with a smile - and
the island will smile back to you

Zakynthos is the southernmost and third
largest Ionian island according to its area and population. The lush
vegetation and wonderful climate from spring until well into late
autumn gave the island the name "Flower of the East" (Flor
die Levante). The picturesque beaches in the north, east and south
attract increasing numbers of guests to this unique island. As Zakynthos
was a crossroads of peoples and cultures, it is home to a rich historical
tradition. Its people are extremely hospitable and involve visitors
in the warmth and quality of life of an extraordinary island.
| The island has an area of 406 sq. km with a length of 37 km
and width of 12 km. |

One of the best-known sights, of Zakynthos (Zante),
illustrated on postcards on every occasion is the shipwreck on the west
of the island. Vertical rocks tower above the rusting shipwreck that came
to rest here on the beach. The dark blue sea presents an incredible composition
of colours and the (white) sand completes an almost unbelievable picture.
Every visitor must absorb this image. It is however the many and extraordinary
sights that makes this island more and more of an inside tip for lovers
of Greece. One only needs to mention Strani Hill, which inspired the poet
Dionysios Solomos to write the verses of the Greek national anthem.
